Recovery from cosmetic procedures such as liposuction takes time.  One doctor mentioned that there are three stages of recovery; the first stage takes 2 to 3 weeks and at these times, you can get a general sense of your new shape; the second stage takes 2 to 3 months, the swelling subsides and your tissue softens; the final stage can take up to a year so it is not uncommon to have areas of numbness.  The discomfort of liposuction is for just a short period of time and majority of the swelling will resolve in four to six weeks, but not completely healed for six to nine months.  There are herbs that can help minimize the bruising and swelling area and the good news is, if you have your own garden, you can grow them yourselves.

Arnica montana, also known as “mountain tobacco” or “wolf’s bane” is an herbaceous flowering plant and is used to help reduce post-surgery swelling and speed your healing time after liposuction however it should be paired with exercise and healthy diet. The plant grows to two feet in height and produces two inches in diameter yellow flower; it originates from the mountainous regions in Europe.  Here are tips on how to grow your own Arnica montanaat home.

You can grow the plant outdoors; it survives winter temperatures as low as minus 25 degrees Fahrenheit.  It also grows well in full sun, but may benefit from afternoon shade, especially in warmer climates.

Prepare the soil, it should have good drainage; the plant tolerates poor soil but grows best in an equal mixture of loam, peat and sand.  Preferably with a slightly acidic soil is and soil pH should be between 5.8 and 7.6.

Plant the seed on bare soil and space them at least an inch apart.  For the seed to have good contact with the soil, rake the soil lightly.  Water the seeds thoroughly after planting.  Its seeds germinate within a month at 55 degrees Fahrenheit with regular watering.

Make sure the soil is moist so water it regularly; this plant does not require supplemental fertilization.

Remove the smaller seedling as the plant grows to achieve final spacing of 1 foot between plants.  When July comes, harvest the flower to use them as herbal medicine.
